about

PURNIMA has been meticulously developed and recorded over two years between Reykjavik, Berlin and Manchester, emerging as a testament to Rakhi Singh's journey into the world of solo performance. Following her first EP Quarry, released in 2021 on the Bedroom Community label, Singh has immersed herself in collaboration and composition, finding her sound, spaces and community outside of her renowned work with Manchester Collective. The album features compositions from eminent UK composers Emily Hall and Alex Groves, alongside pieces by Bang on a Can luminaries Julia Wolfe and Michael Gordon.

The collection is crowned by Singh's own composition, 'Sabkha,' written during the album's recording process and released digitally on September 29. Coinciding with the new release, Singh and Manchester Collective will embark on a month-long tour of England with bassist Alan Keary in October 2023. The LAD tour is named for Julia Wolfe’s formidable composition; originally composed for nine bagpipes and reimagined for the violin, ‘LAD’ forms part of an eclectic set replete with experimentation and improvisation, featuring music by J.S. Bach, Steve Reich, Hildegard von Bingen and Alan Keary.
